Before Ekimelo was founded, a commitment to children living on the street was already taking shape
Every commitment begins with a meeting.
Long before Ekimelo was founded, we went to meet children living on the street who are looked after at the Sainte-Famille care centre in Matete (Kinshasa), where the NGO Balabala also works.
Through this meeting, we wanted to understand the daily lives, needs and challenges of these children. We spoke with the centre's managers, its educators and the children themselves, and we were also able to offer practical support.
The visit also showed us the structural and financial difficulties these care centres face.
This experience reinforced our conviction: defending the rights of children living on the street takes collective mobilisation, attentive listening and lasting action that everyone can be part of.
